Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is the procedure whereby we surgically expose more tooth structure. You may think of it as “pulling the pants down” around one or more teeth to create more exposed tooth. You may request it to change the length of you teeth, to reduce a “gummy smile” or to even out varying tooth sizes, or you dentist may request it to expose more sound tooth structure to enable him or her to adequately restore a broken or decayed tooth.

Questions and Answers:

Q: What are the benefits of having this done?
A: Improves function and/or esthetics, and provide proper foundation for restorative treatment.

Q: How long does the procedure take?
A: 60-90 minutes

Q: How long until my dentist can start the restorative treatment?
A: We ask you to wait at least 4-6 weeks, so that the tissues can heal microscopically before being disturbed.
